The Hermosa Inn, Paradise Valley, Arizona
On a recent drive through some of the Metro Phoenix Areas most exclusive neighborhoods, I found myself on a quaint residential street, home to The Hermosa Inn, one of Paradise Valley's renowned boutique hotels. Dating back to the 1930's, this charming Southwestern Hacienda has a remarkable history. It all began when Cowboy artist, Alonzo "Lon" Megargee discovered this beautiful isolated plot of land, bordering the Camelback and Squaw Peak Mountains in the middle of the Arizona desert. Feeling like the land was speaking to him, Lon built a one-bedroom studio right in the middle of the parcel. Years later he made an addition, using adobe block created from the sites sandy desert soil, turning this once little studio into a Spanish inspired home which he called "Casa Hermosa" or rather "beautiful house". He later began running Casa Hermosa as a guest ranch, hosting many of his friends, in order to supplement his meager art income.
After changing hands a couple of times, the present day Hermosa Inn has undergone many face lifts within it's nearly 80 year history. Surviving a fire in 1987, this refurnished hacienda continues boasting its original design, captivating guests with its secluded surroundings. Today the Hermosa Inn features a 4-star restaurant "LON'S at the Hermosa", a rustique bar and 35 individually decorated casitas, all nestled within the grounds beautiful desert landscape. A perfect place to celebrate a wedding, a romantic weekend or a corporate retreat you'll find yourself captivated by the charm and history of this Southwestern delight!
